Blender 4.4 — New Release of Popular Free 3D Editor
The Blender Foundation has released an updated version of its popular software — Blender 4.4. This release focuses on improving the workflow and fixing bugs, without adding major innovations, but with important changes in key components of the program.
Major improvements include:
- Animation: A new system of slots for Actions allows storing multiple types of animation data in one action. It is now possible to combine animations of multiple objects or split intervals of one action.
- Rendering: Significant improvement in the performance of the Vulkan backend. Startup time is 5 times faster compared to OpenGL with a cold start and 2 times faster with a warm start.
- Compositing: A substantial increase in the speed of the CPU composer. Key nodes now operate 2-10 times faster, and the Glare node has been improved for more convenient addition of glares and glows.
- Integration: Update according to the CY2025 specification for the VFX Reference Platform, which is important for visual effects and animation studios.
- Bug Fixes: Over 500 bug fixes, including significant improvements in Grease Pencil, interface, viewport, and Geometry Nodes system.
Additional improvements include:
- Updated interface with new fonts and hints
- Improved topology workflow in 3D modeling
- Merging of several brushes in sculpting
- New Collection and Object nodes in Geometry Nodes
- Improved denoising in Cycles
- Support for H.265/HEVC codec and 10-/12-bit video formats
- Use of BT.709 color space for HDTV
Blender 4.4 is compatible with Windows 8.1, macOS 11.2, and Linux based on glibc 2.28 and newer versions.
